UPI Down Across India: Users Facing Transaction Disruptions on Google Pay, Paytm & Other Banking Apps
Users across India are experiencing disruptions in Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions, with reports of failed payments on Google Pay, Paytm, and other banking apps. According to Downdetector, reports of service disruptions spiked in the evening, affecting transactions, fund transfers, and login access.
Affected Services:
- Google Pay users reported issues mainly with payments (72%), followed by website access (14%) and app-related problems (14%).
- Paytm also experienced disruptions, with 86% of complaints related to payment failures, while login (9%) and purchase functions (6%) were also affected.
Disruptions in Banking Services & UPI Transactions Across India
Along with UPI failures, banking services have also been affected. The State Bank of India (SBI) faced difficulties in multiple areas, with:
- 47% of complaints related to fund transfers
- 37% concerning mobile banking issues
- 16% reporting online banking troubles
UPI was significantly impacted, with 84% of user complaints related to payment failures.
Spike in Complaints & Social Media Reports
The issues seem to have started post-afternoon, as per reports. Downdetector graphs showed a sharp surge in complaints around 7 PM. Many users also took to social media, reporting failed transactions and delays in fund transfers.
No Official Statement from NPCI Yet
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which oversees UPI operations, has not yet released an official statement on the cause of the disruption.
Possible Cause of the Disruption
As of now, UPI authorities have not disclosed any official reason behind the nationwide outage. However, as per Moneycontrol, users attempting to make payments initially had their money debited, but the amount was later refunded with the message:
"UPI Down in India: Users Facing Payment Issues on GPay, Paytm & Other UPI Apps."
It remains unclear what technical issue caused this large-scale disruption.
